UTF-8 Project

You are here

The UTF-8 Project was approved by the Data Governance & Standards Committee on January 31, 2018. It was completed on May 6, 2022. This page contains links to documents related to the UTF-8 (Special Characters) Project.

The purpose of this project is to store legal names with the inclusion of diacritical marks of students, faculty, and staff in Banner. This will allow for official Lehigh documents to appropriately represent a person's legal name, as well as provide a better user experience for people accessing software/systems that store their name.

In order to view any of the documents below, you must be logged into this site using your Lehigh credentials. Just click on any of the links, and if you haven't logged in already, your username and password will be requested before the document is displayed.

The UTF-8 Report document is the formal report outlining the project purpose, procedure, results, and recommended action plan for the project.

The How to Type Characters with Diacritical Marks document explains how to use either Windows or MacOS to type a character with a diacritical/accent mark.
