Evaluations Q&A

Student Q&A

The purpose of the course evaluations is to provide your instructor with evaluative feedback on your perceptions of the course. These evaluations may also be used for important personnel decisions, so please answer the questions as honestly as possible.  Your cooperation will be valued.

How do I access the course evaluations?

To access the online course evaluations, we ask that you go to this link: https://go.lehigh.edu/evalkit.

If prompted with the Lehigh log-in screen, please log-in by providing your Lehigh userid and password. Once logged in, you will be presented with a screen that will list any courses for which an online course evaluation is available.

In the Fall and Spring semesters, a link will appear on your Course Site landing page during the last week of class through which you can access your course evaluations.

When are the course evaluations available for me to complete?

The course evaluations are administered at the end of the semester.  Generally, the evaluations are made available during the last week of classes, opening Saturday and closing Friday.  In the Spring and Fall semesters, instructors have the option of selecting a shorter 72-hour window within that time frame.

Please note that for courses that do not follow the regular semester schedule, such is the case for a number of summer courses, course evaluations are administered during the last few days of class. The length of the evaluation window is dependent on the length of the course.

Will I be notified that there are course evaluations available for me to fill?

Yes, you will receive an email on the day that the evaluation opens, and will be sent up to 3 reminder emails in the following days if you have still not completed your evaluation.

Are my responses anonymous?

The Course Evaluation process is administered through the Office of Institutional Data in order to maintain the confidentiality of the students and the integrity of the evaluation process.  When a student submits his or her evaluation, the response is recorded and our office cannot match it to the individual respondent. The system allows us to see who has or has not completed the evaluation, but not what they have submitted.  Furthermore, instructors are only provided with the summary of all responses in an aggregate report, they are not provided with individual responses.

When will my evaluation be made available to the instructor?

A summary and analysis of the results will be made available to the instructor a few days after final grades are reported.

If I have more than one instructor for a given course, who will I be evaluating?

You will be asked to evaluate all of the instructors of record through separate evaluation forms, and each instructor will receive a separate end of semester summary.

Can I evaluate the TA for my course?

Yes, only if the department has requested evaluations for the course TA. Only then will you be asked to evaluate your TA using a separate evaluation form with a different list of questions.

I cannot see the evaluation form for one of my courses; why could that be?

If a course has fewer than 5 students enrolled, then no evaluation will be administered. In the Fall and Spring semesters, it is also possible that the course instructor requested a shorter evaluation window for the course, and the evaluation form is either not yet open, or already closed. Some courses are also excluded since the evaluation process is not applicable to them, e.g. dissertation courses, private music lessons, etc. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you think you are missing the evaluation form for one of your courses.

Who can I contact if I have questions about my course evaluations?

Instructor Q&A

How do I access the course evaluation summaries?

To access the summaries, you have to log-in to Lehigh's Course Evaluations & Surveys Portal via this URL: https://go.lehigh.edu/evalkit  (You will be prompted with the Lehigh log-in screen.  You must log-in by providing your Lehigh userid and password.)

When are course evaluations administered to students?

The course evaluations are administered to students at the end of the semester.  Generally, the evaluations are made available during the last week of classes, opening Saturday and closing Friday.  Instructors have the option of selecting a shorter 72-hour window within that time frame.  For more information on this process, visit the Evaluation Process page.

Please note that for courses that do not follow the regular semester schedule, such is the case for a number of summer courses, course evaluations are administered during the last few days of class during a shorter window. The length of this window is dependent on the length of the course.

As an instructor, will I be able to identify whom of my students completed the course evaluations?

No, you will not be able to identify who has completed the course evaluations.  The course evaluations are confidential and de-identified to us.  The system does not allow us to see the individual responses of students.

If two instructors co-teach a course, who will be evaluated?

If the course is recorded in Banner as being co-taught, the system will prepare a course evaluation form for each of the instructors.  The students will be asked to evaluate each of the instructors separately, and each instructor will receive an end of semester summary.

Which courses get evaluated?

All courses with a total enrollment of 5 or more students (after combining cross listed courses) are evaluated, unless the course is identified as not requiring evaluations (e.g. dissertation courses, private music lessons, etc.)

Will I be able to see the live response rates?

Yes, anytime during the evaluation period, you may log in to Lehigh’s Course Evaluations & Surveys Portal and check the live response rates. You will not be able to see your ratings or the list of completer/non-completers, only the percent of students that have completed the evaluations for your course(s).

How can I help increase the response rates?

As the instructor of the course, you may send your students a personalized email asking them to kindly complete the evaluation for your course. You only need to provide them the Lehigh Watermark portal link along with your message. Here is the link to the portal: https://go.lehigh.edu/evalkit

If you wish to use class time, you may ask the students to complete the evaluations during a 10-15 minute period, preferably at the beginning of class. The students may use a smartphone, smart tablet, or computer/laptop. If you wish to do this, YOU SHOULD LEAVE THE CLASSROOM when students are completing the forms.

In addition, in the Fall and Spring semesters OID will coordinate with LTS to facilitate the links to the evaluation forms directly through Course Site (allowing another form of reminder for students in courses that utilize Course Site), and OID will post the link on the University Daily Announcements. Posters encouraging students to complete the evaluations will be displayed throughout the University Campus.
